The Court Reporter

The Fall of XRCraft

Why this took so long to write

I... honest to god did not want to write this immediately following what happened. I couldn't find a way to put it into words without frankly closing my text editor.

Combine that with the fact of having, at the time, a full time job... you get a response to what happened after 2 months. I really enjoyed hanging out with Cart. I also enjoyed me, CAD's, and Cart's Rocket League sessions.

Me and Cart's Background

Me and Cart were really close friends for a good long time. I actually was the guy who trusted Cart enough to start XRCraft and vouch on his behalf for hosting the server hardware in-house without a contract or anything.

God forbid I trust someone.

Dictionary

  • XRCraft - Technically its XRCraft part 2, but I will be referring this latest iteration by just "XRCraft".
  • Credit - "Praise given to someone for doing a good job or being responsible for a success."
  • License - "A code license is a legal agreement that states how people can use, change, and share a computer program's source code."
  • Narcissist - "A narcissist is a person who has an excessive admiration for themselves, an inflated sense of self-importance, and a deep lack of empathy for others."

The Beginning

A while after I had forgiven Cart for his role in the original XRCraft's downfall, me, CAD and Cart got in a voice call to discuss the reboot.

I vouched for Cart after it was clear that he was really only willing to host if he owned the hardware. At which point CAD gave the go-ahead and Cart started development.

I continued working on QuestCraft; as XRCraft started to trickle along in development.

Then it launched alongside our new version. At which point we were credited for our work.

My Graduation and Introduction to the Workforce

I can hear it already. "Why are you talking about your Graduation in a post about XRCraft's downfall?"

The answer is simple. I wouldn't be able to be around a lot. I partially blame myself for letting it go down as much as I did, but at the same time I had to pay my bills.

I graduated in 2024 in May, but I started work in July. So I did what I could to assist in the meantime. But as soon as I started... my motivation dropped significantly outside of work. I couldn't continue doing what I had been doing for the past 4 years.

So I basically just... stopped. And I let things run their course.

The Dark Times

Fast-forward to May 2026. I am by then working for a packing house in the IT Department. XRCraft had been fairly stagnant due to Cart having some mental issues. I was willing to let that go. But the events that followed needed intervention.

Here is a basic overview of some complaints.

  • Eva felt like Cart refused to give credit where credit was due.
  • CAD and Eva felt like neither of their opinions on infrastructure was ignored by Cart, and that Admins essentially had no say over anything.

After hearing this and watching them struggle heavily to cope with it. I direct messaged Cart and told him to get in a call.

The recording is here.

You can listen to it and come to your own judgements. The recording cuts off due to the member recording getting so upset at what Cart was saying that they left the call.

I gave him ~2 days to figure out his plan for the future if his mental health was so bad that he could not handle the server, I insisted he spends those two days to write it and review it.

He turned it into me that night, which I did not appreciate. It was fairly rushed and barely reviewed or thought out.

The Unexpected Acension

Skip ahead to late July. Cart had said multiple times he would be back in about a week. Then a week would pass. No interaction from him to me or CAD. Granted, CAD and Eva both by this point had stepped down as nothing was getting better.

A unsatisfied player direct messages me about a moderator action not being handled well. I take a look and see his complaint was 100% valid. It is at this point the straw that broke the camels back landed.

I move quickly to make it clear the XRCraft is no longer part of QuestCraft. I start by removing Cart's permissions in QuestCraft, make the announcement in XRCraft, then leave the server to clear my own permissions.

As I am finishing up I hear a name I had never heard prior. A user by the name of "Storm" had been promoted to admin. I was expecting moderators going to admin, but not a random going to admin. That was odd.

I didn't think much of it until players in QC were being banned in droves for so much as defending our actions.

I eventually get in there and am respectful and professional. As I was saying facts, I get timed out. It was clear they did not want me to expose what Cart had been doing.

IceByte

If you didn't know, I recently (about 2 weeks ago from time of posting) quit my job to work at IceByte Hosting. A more-than-a-server-host organization that was willing to pay me to work on MCNative (More to follow on this specifically).

Cart was also employed with IceByte. But that was about to change as Cart had 256GB of RAM the company had bought in exchange for him hosting some servers for the company with the hardware he had, but it was clear to them now that he could not be trusted.

Eavesdropper

CAD had developed a plugin called Eavesdropper which I am sure you are familiar with. If you are not, it was basically a voice chat moderation plugin completely made by CAD.

The license was "All Rights Reserved". Meaning CAD could pull the plugin from anyone he wanted if he so much as felt like it.

He proceeded, after the fallout had cleared and Storms methods became known, that they were to discontinue using Eavesdropper.

A few days pass, all of the QC staffs main Minecraft accounts were banned by this point. Eavesdropper had not been removed unlike what Storm had said. I confirmed this by logging on an alt and using /plugins. After they disabled that command, I was able to find it in the help command.

After revealing this to CAD and him mentioning he was planning to DMCA his ISP if he was not addressed... I create a group chat with Storm and Cart. Making it clear that Eavesdropper should be removed. If not for Cart's sake, then for his mothers.

Here is the thing. CAD had all the rights to immediately DMCA Carts ISP. He didn't to give them a chance to do it themselves. Because ISPs will shut down an IP practically immediately after the DMCA is filed.

I explain my thoughts, and Storm tries BSing her way through it. I point out that it is childish to do this, but she doubles down.

Here are screenshots from the conversation.

I then got banned from the XRCraft discord. Storm proved herself as a narcissist in my books.

What is next?

Honestly we are not sure yet. It is clear that if there is another server, it will be owned by QuestCraft as an organization. Contracts, NDAs whatever it takes. But it is clear we cannot rely on people to host for us without such measures as this is now the second time this has happened.

That is basically all the things I can think of to talk about. Anyone can direct message me if they have questions.
